It may be grey skies outside but we are all sunshine and smiles on the blog today with an AWESOME festival inspired wedding inspiration shoot put together by Alison of Cambridge Glitter Bar and Make Up By Alison and captured so brilliantly by Lee Allison Photography.
Inspired by the hazy days of summer, Alison wanted to create a shoot with a retro chic spin on festival wedding inspiration. She combined an earthy colour palette, reminiscent of the retro colours of the 1970’s, with on-trend decor, textures and flowers. The result, a shoot that is full of colour, full of ideas and full of so many beautiful smiles from the real life couple featured.
Alison shares with us her ideas for the shoot, the incredible suppliers involved and gives examples of simple ways of injecting personality into your day.

The Hazy Days of Summer
Make Up by Alison and Cambridge Glitter Bar (the same person!) were the creative visionaries behind this shoot. This shoot was Inspired by the hazy days of Summer on the Farm. Bringing with it nostalgic pampas grass for on trend wedding inspiration. This real life couple really bought it to life. The theme was 1970’s inspired retro boho chic. For this I chose the warmth of rustic orange to compliment the pampas grass. Larkspur Floral Design created a stunning set of flowers for this shoot adding in coffee and burnt orange roses to the armfuls of pampas grass creating gorgeous earthy texture.
We chose Cambridgeshire’s Lattenbury Farm as our venue for its expanse of lawns, its magnificent hay bale stacks piled nearly as high as the sky and the wheat fields which spread as far as the eye can see. This venue is a blank canvas for couples to create and design their own unique wedding day. The ceremony was overlooking a beautiful lake, with the bride walking to the alter in an aisle made of meadow like florals.
We brought into the ceremony a celebrant called Kelly Hawes. Wanting to add some realness to the day, a celebrant led ceremony also means you get to write your own vows. What an added personal touch to a day that will be solely unique to you.
Styling the bride, Cambridge Vintage Bridal was the way to go for anything retro. We actually chose a 1980’s dress with its high neck, long sleeved lace look. Combining vintage with on trend looks of the now.
For the makeup, I stayed with the earthy tones to compliment the whole style of this shoot. I kept it matte and classic with lots of liner and lashes. Cambridge Glitter Bar took us straight into the 1970’s with twinkling gold stars for added glamour and a modern twist to glitter bars used now for weddings. A real show stopper of a hair piece was added by Victoria Louise Accessories – I would call this a festival style feather headpiece and certainly has the wow factor.
Photography had to be Lee Allison for his fun, stylish yet relaxed vibes and Hushabye Films was the videographer of choice for her creative, retro style and her thinking outside the box ideas!
Retro Festival Vibes
We really wanted to explore some new ideas and our stylist Fleur de Lace thought her outdoor hanging festoons mixed with pom poms and festoon lighting would be perfect. The guests can look up at the starry sky through the gold stars intertwined through the festoons. The brides look was tweaked for her evening reception adding in a vibrant lip and gold star crown to add some more fun into the mix.
The groom wore a brown tweed Donegal three piece suit throughout by Duncan James, Walsall. They matched the rustic colour theme with an earthy green bow tie and pocket square.
No retro wedding would be complete without a vintage camper van. Meet Lucie. A great way to make an entrance! Dress it up how you like.
Let’s not forget the food!! Little Piggy Catering supplied a sharing board and platter of appetizers and what a feast it was! They created rustic style homemade food ideal for grazing throughout the reception. Mmm home sweet home. This was placed on the dream of a table set up by Fleur De Lace. Little Button nose supplied us with a choice of 2 menu designs in keeping with the earthy style.
One Part Love Bakery supplied the cake and sweet treats. Brownies and cupcakes adorned with edible pressed flowers. The stunning cake was set up in the Wonky Barn alongside the top table with a backdrop of pinwheels and placed on a wooden barrel. This echoed the theme throughout with its torn paper ruffles and rice paper petals tinged with gold.
